So I'm 19 living in a dorm room on campus. I figured the Clavinova was way too steep on my pockets. I played piano once upon a time, but never took lesssons really. I was attracted to the price of this keyboard and the fact that it was actually full-size. Being sick and tired of my 61-key keyboard, I figured I'd go seek out shopping for a better one and one that is full size.
I don't know digital pianos too well but from experience I've noticed that Yamaha and Roland were pretty formidable with their products. I wouldn't have given a second look to the other brands. I've tried this product out at a store some time ago several times before actually thinking about buying it. I thought it was very nice for a consumer based instrument.

Having read the other reviews of this item, it is interesting to me that someone complained that the keys are not "weighted". I will agree with them that the keys do not feel like the stiff unyeilding keys of some pianos however, my much loved and much played but still wonderful baby grand has keys that feel very similar. Having taught piano and various other instruments for many years, if you are not in the market for a "real" piano or don't have the space or move around a lot, then this one will serve very well. I have this as well as my "real" piano. I play them both regularly and have no problem going back and forth. Neither do my students whether they are beginners or advanced. This is well worth the price tag!

I'm very pleased with this product. The DGX-500 was a popular and highly-touted digital piano in its price range. The DGX-505 does everything the 500 did, and adds USB, Smart Media capability, and other great features. I'm not going to compare this to a $2,000 or $3,000 piano, because that's ridiculous. If you were in the market for a $3,000 piano, you wouldn't be browsing in the $600 price range. For the average person, just looking to have home access to a full-featured digital piano, the Yamaha DGX-505 is perfect. It has more features than most people will ever need, and the sound is excellent. I also really like the look of the wooden side panels and the bench that came with it. The bench really makes it resemble a piano - rather than just a keyboard with a fancy stand. I have no regrets at all about buying this digital piano, and I can't imagine upgrading for many years. I'd buy this again in a second.

Yep, I said it, the board is too light. Great sounds as always from Yamaha, but I cant use something so lightweight live. Plus the fact you need the power adaptor to plug in instead of the typical AC cord, making it risky when your going from place to place. If they made the board design look more like the XF with normal AC, I would buy it tomorrow.

I did a ton of research before buying the MM6. There are some great videos on YouTube from a sales rep / company spokesman who was very entertaining. The keyboard does have great sounds, but it has a much lighter/cheaper feel than I thought it would. It feels more like a Yamaha PSR or Casio than a real workstation or synth. I also think the rhythm patterns are a bit misleading. Like many various devices being marketed today (from guitar multi effects to multi track recorders), it comes with what seems to be advertised as a drum machine. But you really can't edit or program the patterns-- they are just pre-set patterns. I suppose they are more fun than a metronome, but only marginally more useful.
I'm happy with the purchase (hence the "It's OK") star rating. But in retrospect, I should have held out for a used 88-key model. I think it would have a nicer feel.

I bought the MM6 as a step up from the PSR-292 I had been using to practice piano. So far, it has been perfect.
Keyboard touch sensitivity is much better than the PSR-292. Just as plasticky, but the range of touch sensitivity is much wider. It's easier to learn to play piano with the MM6 than with the PSR-292.
The MM6's sounds are much better than the PSR-292. The main piano is only slightly better, but all the other sounds are significantly better.
The MM6's rhythms and accompaniments are very contemporary and fairly narrow. You won't find a good range of standard genres (e.g. 8beat rock, jazz waltz, and beguine are missing) like on the PSR-292. The MM6 rhythms are primarily rap, dance, and techno. If, like me, you don't use this feature, you won't notice.
Like with the PSR-292, the sequencer in the MM6 has no way to set the volume levels on the individual tracks. For me, this renders the sequencer useless.
If you're looking for a reasonably priced piano replacement, look no further than the YPG-235. It is the music student or professional musicians' answer to “I need more keys!” and many music teachers encourage new students to get a keyboard that will grow with their needs. It features 76 non-weighted keys that not only look like piano keys but have a Graded Soft Touch (GST) action with different levels of resistance, making it easier for a budding musician to move to an acoustic or digital piano.

After having played the Yamaha YPG-535 88-key Portable Grand Piano Keyboard in a showroom and loving it, I was torn, wondering what all I would be missing out on if I went with the more economically priced YPG-235. I now own the 235 and it appears as if I am missing out on twelve keys. That is, I am not experiencing even an ounce of buyer's remorse after opting for the cheaper 235. This is a lovely keyboard with more beautiful voices than I will ever know what to do with and extremely user friendly functionality. Of course, my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt as I will be the first to admit that my experience with other products of this variety is extremely limited. As such, it might be best to say that, for a novice, one could not ask for a better instrument for the price.

I am a novice piano player, but for the price, this electric piano is fantastic. It works perfectly with Mac Garage Band (download Yamaha Mac drivers). The grand piano sample sounds like a real piano. The led display helps with reading notes. There are 300+ samples, fun for the my nephews, and fun for me. It has a a nice resistive feeling between a real piano and a synth. The lower octaves have a heavier feel compared to the higher octaves. For the serious novice or the pro that needs a nice inexpensive portable, this machine is a super bargain. In no way does this machine feel cheap. Yamaha created a wonderful machine, with the greatest respect for those on a budget.

When I purchased this keyboard I thought that it would be good, but it exceded my expectations tremendously! The color is amazing, however the piano sound is exsquisit. The keys are silent, in my opinion, compaired to cheep Casio keyboards. The graded soft touch is one of my favorite features in an electronic keyboard, and though the keys are not weighted like the more expensive models it suffices for my purposes.
I can only comment on the piano and celesta sounds because they are the tones that I work with most often - and they are both sound amazing through the built in speakers, in my personal opinion.
The included music stand is also a plus it is much better than those included with some other keyboards.
The consule is not overloaded with controls like a synthesizer it is relativly clean. I also like the square and rectangular buttons which have a classic look. It doesNOT have a sampler feature, for which I have no use anyway.
